2007 Nomad Classic Champions

Congratulations to Barry Stoltz and Steven Way, the 2007 Nomad Classic Champions!

Steve Way and Barry Stoltz

Stoltz and Way started the tournament off with a fantastic first round played at the Tamarac Golf and Country Club near Peterborough. Stoltz shot two-under his handicap while Way was a staggering ten-under! Mark Rinaldo was in contention for yet another Nomad as he and his partner Andy were second after day one at a combined score of -7.

Day two’s round at Six Foot Bay was in jeopardy from the outset due to grey clouds dominating the skies. The pairing of the top two teams from the previous day contrasted two teams moving in opposite directions on the front nine. Stoltz and Way played well while the Rinaldo team quickly fell off pace. Stoltz and Way were feeling extremely confident when the skies suddenly opened up on the back nine with a torrential downpour. All the teams struggled through the rain with the teams out of contention resorting to cart polo while others struggled with slippery grips leading to flying clubs landing in ponds. On the back nine Stoltz played above his handicap while Way played to his handicap leading to a combined final score of -3 for day two. Little did they know that the team of Ryan Doyle and Nathan Green tore up day two to finish -9 for the round. They ended up at ten-under for the tournament as runners up while Way and Stoltz finished at fifteen-under to win the tournament. Way took home the inaugural Sandbagger trophy for his individual performance of best score under his handicap at a two day combined sixteen strokes under his handicap.
